Who We Are

A strong voice for Energy Market Innovators

Since 2002, the Association of Energy Market Innovators (bne) dissolves old borders and rethinks the energy sector as a whole. Our vision is a decentralized, digital and strictly renewable energy market. Together with our members we stand for the most effective economic solutions, a smart digitalization, more flexibility, and a reduction of fossil fuel subsidies.

An intelligent coupling of the sectors electricity, heating and mobility follows its competitive and customer-oriented core concept. We think about energy sectors holistically: whether it’s tax or agricultural law, municipal participation or consumer protection. As the only energy association, our focus is on the competitive value-added stages of the energy transition, free from network-operator self-interests.

Our members include green energy providers, developers of PV open-space installations, as well as companies in the business areas of smart metering, prosuming, flexibility, and large-scale storage.

Four fundamental requirements apply to the implementation of the energy transition:

  • The energy transition is based on renewable energies, must be decentralized, digitized, and made more flexible.
  • The energy transition must integrate electricity, heat, and mobility through a CO2 price.
  • The energy transition must reform the regulated components of electricity prices.
  • The energy transition must be simple and standardized.

A powerful network in Berlin an Brussels

In Berlin and Brussels, we advocate for the interests of the new energy economy – in consultation rounds, hearings and through continuous professional exchange:

  • The Association of Energy Innovators (bne) is a founding member and bord member of the European umbrella organization European Energy Retailers (EER). Since 2018, the association represents the interests of independent energy suppliers and service providers.
  • In addition, we are member of the association Smart Energy Europe, the organization for market participants for digital and decentralized energy solutions.
  • Furthermore, through the European solar association SolarPower Europe, we work towards more innovation and sovereignty for the European PV industry.
